Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin

Friday, December 4, 2009 - 7.30 PM
St Andrew's Presbyterian Church
82 Kent Street, Ottawa

Honorary Patron
His Excellency Dr. Georg Witschel
Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Canada

This remarkable ensemble began as a courageous display of musical sovereignty against the East German socialist regime, and now, on the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin enjoys recognition as one of the world’s greatest musical success stories. Brought to the limelight after the re-unification of East and West Germany, the ensemble has received numerous awards including the Diapason d'Or, the Gramophone, the Grammy (with Cecilia Bartolli) and the Telemann Prize. Akamus records exclusively for Harmonia Mundi, and collaborates with the world’s leading artists including soloists Carolyn Sampson, Andreas Scholl and Vivica Genaux.  In addition to their sold-out series at the Berlin Konzerthaus, they appear regularly in the great concert halls of Europe, Asia and North America. The programme for our Ottawa concert will include works by Telemann, Reichenauer and J.S.Bach.

The Embassy of the Republic of Germany will host a reception following the concert.
